The old building's rough timber and brickwork, pale wall and narrow windows form a close, irregular boundary on the left; the fence's vertical bars and pointed tops create a dark boundary on the right. Green foliage rises behind the fence. Between these edges, the street of pale buildings narrows into the distance beneath a bright, overcast sky.

The palette contrasts the warm orange and pink clothing and brown masonry with cool greys, dark navy and black, and the green trees. The light is soft and diffuse, with no strong cast shadows. Large thin white capitals spelling “CALAN” stretch across the middle of the photograph, overlaying the people and background. Beneath them, near the centre, “GIGGLY” appears in smaller, widely spaced pale yellow capitals with a slight shadow or dark edge.
