Cor Meibion Llanfair
Album artwork for Cor Meibion Llanfair, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square album cover shows a stone bridge crossing calm water beneath a bright blue sky. The bridge runs horizontally across the middle of the image, its dark, rough-faced masonry forming a series of rounded arches. The arches and their reflections make repeated oval shapes, with the reflected stonework darkening the water below. At the right end, the bridge meets a cluster of buildings, including a pale stone building with a steep red roof and a small pointed feature rising above it. Low green hills and scattered trees form a distant strip behind the bridge.
The water fills much of the lower half and reflects the bridge, sky and buildings in softened, slightly rippled shapes. Yellow-green plants and grasses crowd the lower-right bank, bright against the dark water; the lower-left edge is shaded and partly bordered by vegetation. Above the bridge, distant hills and trees sit beneath a broad blue sky. White clouds gather at the upper-right and in a larger, soft-edged mass near the top centre, while the sky is clearer and deeper blue at upper left. The scene is brightly lit, with strong contrast between the sunlit sky and banks and the shadowed arches.
Text is arranged in the upper-left quadrant over the sky. Two lines of white, flowing script read “Côr Meibion” and “Llanfair-ym-Muallt”. Beneath them, three lines of pale blue-green uppercase lettering read “BUILTH / MALE VOICE / CHOIR”. The script is larger and more cursive; the choir name below is set in upright, serif-like capitals with a subtle dark edge or shadow that helps it stand out against the sky. The image is a colour photograph, with no visible border.
What the image evokes.
The cover’s calm, level arrangement makes the bridge feel like a threshold between the open landscape and the small settlement at the right. Its arches, repeated in the water, give the scene a measured rhythm: solid stone above, softened dark shapes below. The reflection lends the view a quiet symmetry without making it perfectly still; slight disturbance in the water keeps the image from feeling like a postcard frozen in glass.
The blue sky and fresh green banks suggest a clear, mild day, while the dark bridge carries a sense of age and weight. The lettering floats over the sky as though it belongs to the open air, and its two contrasting styles lend the cover both a personal touch and a formal announcement. The overall impression is pastoral and composed, with a hint of ceremony in the stately bridge and carefully stacked title. It could evoke the familiar visual language of a village view or a travel postcard, though the reflective water and expansive sky make the scene feel quieter and more contemplative than a simple landmark portrait.
