Album artwork for Trebor Edwards, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square album cover combines a warm-toned portrait on the left with a narrow blue title panel on the right. An older man is shown from the chest up, seated or leaning slightly forward and facing the camera. He has wavy silver-grey hair, a friendly expression and a slight smile. He wears a pale cream jacket over a blue shirt and a patterned brown tie. His head and shoulders fill most of the left side; the lower edge crops him at the chest, and the dividing edge of the blue panel cuts close along his right shoulder.
Behind him, golden-brown fibrous material, resembling straw or dried grasses, fills the background. Its irregular strands create a rough, softly focused texture around the more sharply defined face and clothing. The portrait is lit warmly, with brighter highlights on his face and pale jacket and deeper shadows around the hair and beneath the chin. The overall palette is ochre, amber and brown, set against the saturated cyan-blue of the vertical panel.
The right-hand panel occupies roughly a quarter of the cover and runs from top to bottom. Its lettering is rotated to read upwards from the bottom when the cover is viewed as shown. The largest words, “TREBOR EDWARDS” in red capitals with pale edging or shadow, sit near the panel’s outer edge. Beside them, smaller white lettering reads “DP/D6 Margaret Edwards a Chor Alawon Menai”. Large yellow capitals spelling “CEIDWAD BYD” occupy the lower part of the panel. The contrasting sizes and colours make the lettering a prominent graphic element alongside the portrait. The cover has no visible frame or border. It appears to use a colour photograph, with the portrait and textured background occupying one continuous image, juxtaposed with a flat, solid-colour text strip.
What the image evokes.
The cover has the directness of a formal portrait made approachable. The man’s steady gaze and easy smile suggest a posed photograph, but the close crop and the warmth of the straw-coloured background keep it from feeling austere. The rough, golden texture evokes a rustic setting, while the cream jacket and carefully knotted tie lend the image a polished, ceremonial quality.
The blue strip introduces a crisp, almost poster-like counterpoint to the softer photograph. Its upright block of colour and emphatic red and yellow lettering give the composition a confident, old-fashioned graphic punch. The result balances intimacy with announcement: a personal face set beside a name and title made large enough to read as part of the visual architecture. The golds and blue also make the cover feel sunny and familiar, though the narrow, forceful typography adds a note of formality.
