Inside the image.
A square cover is built around a central photographic portrait of two smiling men, set within a busy border of small, colourful illustrated scenes. The men fill most of the middle: the man on the left wears a pale checked shirt and dark jacket, while the man on the right wears a dark green top and has a short reddish-brown beard. Their heads sit close together against a softly blended yellow-green background. The left man has dark, swept-back hair; the right man has short, tousled hair. Both face the viewer, with the right man’s arm appearing to extend behind his companion.
The central photograph is surrounded by irregular, torn-paper-like edges, as though it were pasted over a patchwork of illustrations. These fragments show festive and storybook-like subjects: a robin at the upper left; a small figure in red near the top; woodland animals and snowy greenery across the top; a cluster of brightly dressed figures at the upper right; and, down the sides, more figures in colourful clothes, a red-clad bearded character, flowers and leafy motifs. Along the bottom are further fragments, including a red panel with pale floral decoration, a blue panel with a stylised figure, and a large pale flower at the lower right. The fragments vary in size and orientation, and their rough, uneven boundaries make a decorative frame around the portrait. The background is densely filled, with little empty space.
Large cream-coloured lettering arches across the top over the illustrations, reading “Y Dolig Gorau Un”. The letters are bold, serifed and slightly irregular, with a dark outline or shadow that helps them stand out against the busy background. Across the lower part of the image, a much larger handwritten title or signature in thin gold lines sweeps over the portrait and collage. Its strokes overlap the men and the lower illustrated panels; the wording is not confidently legible in full.
The palette is vivid and varied: warm reds, greens, yellows and blues dominate the surrounding panels, while the central portrait uses more natural skin tones, dark clothing and a muted yellow-green backdrop. The image combines photography with painted or drawn illustrations. The rough paper-like edges, layered placement and slight unevenness of the fragments give it a cut-and-paste appearance, although individual surface details are small and somewhat soft.
What the image evokes.
The cover feels like a family album assembled for a festive occasion: two warmly grinning faces at its centre, surrounded by a jumble of seasonal pictures, flowers and storybook figures. Its crowded frame has the cheerfully untidy quality of a handmade scrapbook, where each little illustration seems to have been collected for its colour and charm rather than arranged into a strict pattern.
The arched lettering gives the top a ceremonial, almost signboard-like presence, while the gold script below moves more freely, as if written in one flourish. These two kinds of lettering pull in different directions: one is emphatic and orderly, the other loose and personal. Against them, the photographs lend the collage a direct human warmth. The overall effect is exuberant and approachable, with a touch of deliberate quaintness; the smiling portrait anchors a visual world that otherwise keeps multiplying into small, bright distractions.
