Inside the image.
The square cover is divided into two main panels: a bright green text-and-emblem block on the left, taking up just under half the width, and a colour photograph of a mountain lake on the right. Narrow black bands run across the top and bottom, each edged with a thin red line. The photographic panel reaches the right edge and is separated from the green panel by a pale vertical strip.
In the photograph, a blue lake fills the middle distance beneath a pale blue sky dotted with small white clouds. A long, uneven mountain ridge rises behind it, its slopes a mix of dark and lighter greens. The nearer shore is thick with vegetation: a small tree with pale blossoms stands near the centre, with clusters of pink flowers lower down and a rough stone wall or path edge crossing the bottom right. The image has the compact, slightly soft appearance of a printed photograph; the view recedes from the flowers and wall in front to the lake and mountain beyond.
The left panel is a flat, saturated green. Near its top, large yellow serif capitals are arranged in three lines: “FESTIVAL / OF MASSED / CHOIRS”. Below them is a large red heraldic dragon-like figure, facing left with a raised head and curling tail, placed over or beside a red harp-like shape. Further down, smaller white serif lettering reads “Royal Albert Hall”. At the bottom of the green area, large yellow Welsh capitals are set over three lines: “GŴYL / CORAU / UNEDIG”. The bold lettering is tightly stacked and aligned to the left, with little open space around the emblem and words.
The top black band carries small red Welsh text, “Cymdeithas Corau Meibion Gogledd Cymru”, running from the left across most of the cover. In the bottom band, larger red lettering reads “North Wales Association of Male Choirs”. The bands frame the two contrasting panels and give the cover a compact, poster-like structure. The typography and emblem are clean, flat graphic elements, set against the more natural colours and depth of the landscape photograph.
What the image evokes.
The cover sets an emblematic, almost ceremonial graphic against a quiet landscape view. The dragon and harp-like form, with their strong red silhouettes, feel like a banner or badge, while the green field and yellow lettering make the left panel read at a glance like a notice pinned up for an event. The formal stacking of the words suggests a public announcement; it is direct and functional, with the vivid colours lending it a festive edge.
The photograph offers a different kind of attention. Its lake, mountain and flowering shore invite a slower gaze, as if the natural scene provides a sense of place beyond the bold event lettering. That contrast produces an appealing tension: the left half is flat, insistent and organised, while the right half opens into distance and irregular forms. The top and bottom bands hold both modes together, like the ruled edges of a printed programme or a small travel poster.
The palette can feel both celebratory and slightly old-fashioned: red, green and yellow are used without subtle gradation in the graphic panel, while the photograph softens those colours into greens, blues and pinks. The result has a handmade, community-notice quality, though the crisp division and centred heraldic emblem keep it orderly. It can suggest Welsh cultural imagery through the visible dragon and harp-like motif, while the mountain landscape adds a more contemplative note; neither fully overwhelms the other.
