The Best Of Rhymney Silurian

Rhymni Silurian Male Voice Choir

Album artwork for Rhymni Silurian Male Voice Choir, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.

A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

A square cover has a softly blended, pastel background: warm yellow and pale gold dominate the left, shifting through pink and peach at the upper right to muted blue-grey near the lower edge. The central feature is a large, cream-coloured ornamental form resembling a vertical chain of three linked loops. Its upper and lower loops are larger, each enclosing a grey-green circular inset; a smaller central loop encloses a pale yellow disc. The form has a raised, rounded appearance, with shaded edges and soft shadows that give it depth against the flat, hazy background.

Two narrow upright panels flank the central motif. Each has a dark reddish-brown rectangular frame and a column of repeated triangular shapes inside, alternating pale yellow and lavender-pink against a light ground. The left panel sits near the left edge and is slightly shorter than the right panel, which stands just right of centre and behind the text at its lower right. The image has no outer border.

At the upper right, white italic serif lettering reads “The best of”, above the larger, bold white serif words “Rhymney Silurian”. Lower down, overlapping the right panel’s edge and extending into the background, a red serif inscription is set on short, left-aligned lines: “Rhymney / Silurian / Male / Choir’s / Top 20 / Tracks”. Near the lower right, three lines of smaller white italic serif lettering read “Goreuon / Côr Meibion / Silwriaid Rhymni”. The cover combines a clean, geometric arrangement with softly shaded, dimensional-looking shapes and a diffuse, airbrushed colour field.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The linked cream loops suggest a piece of oversized jewellery, a stylised knot, or a diagram made tactile. Their gentle shadows make the form feel almost carved or moulded, while the coloured circles give it the measured balance of a dial or emblem. The narrow side panels add a more architectural note: their repeated triangles could be read as a simple frieze, or as a row of pennants viewed in a frame.

The hazy yellow, rose and blue-grey ground softens these crisp forms and lends the design a dreamy, slightly vintage character. There is a tension between the central motif’s calm symmetry and the more practical, stacked lettering at the right, which presses close to the framed panel. The result feels at once ceremonial and playful, like a decorative object placed in a pastel-lit display; its abstract shapes remain open to interpretation rather than resolving into a single emblem.

Associations are subjective readings, rather than documented influences or statements of the artist’s intention.
