A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

A square album cover combines a close-up photograph of a rough, woven cloth background with a strip of wood, loose white threads and a row of coloured drawing materials. The upper portion is mostly beige-grey fabric, its coarse weave visible across the surface. Near the lower edge of this fabric, a horizontal band of warm brown wood runs from side to side. A frayed off-white textile strip lies across the wood and the top of the objects below it, with uneven fibres and loose strands curling upwards and looping over one another, especially on the left and near the centre. Small dark metal-like marks or fasteners appear along the strip.

The bottom third is filled by a tightly cropped row of upright, narrow drawing sticks or crayons, set side by side in a dark holder. Their surfaces vary in colour and condition: black, brown, ochre, red, blue, green, pink, white and other muted tones show through worn or irregular wrappers. Some have blunt, scuffed ends, while others have brighter patches of pigment. The row forms a dense horizontal base, contrasting with the open fabric above. The image is lit softly and evenly, with subdued earthy colours overall and brighter colour accents in the materials at the bottom.

White lettering sits over the right half of the fabric and wood area. The larger title, “HUFEN IÂ POETH”, is set in tall, narrow uppercase letters with pronounced serifs; beneath it, in smaller, thin uppercase lettering, is “LLIWIA DY DDARLUN”. Both lines are aligned towards the right, with the title more prominent. The photographic textures remain visible behind the text. The cover has no visible border.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The image sets the orderliness of the row of drawing sticks against the unruly thread that spills across the centre. That small opposition gives the cover a handmade, work-in-progress quality: the materials seem to have been gathered on a table, with fibres still catching and lifting from the cloth. The visible weave, worn colour on the sticks and irregular edges keep the scene tactile rather than polished.

The palette is quiet and domestic—linen, wood and dark pigment—until the coloured sticks introduce a compact run of vivid marks. They could suggest a painter’s or child’s tools, though the cover leaves their use open. The large, formal lettering adds a contrasting note of ceremony, almost like a title on an old book, while the scene beneath it feels intimate and practical. Together, these elements hold a pleasing uncertainty between craft and play, careful arrangement and accidental tangling.

Associations are subjective readings, rather than documented influences or statements of the artist’s intention.
