Inside the image.
A square, brightly coloured illustrated cover shows a cartoon bird seated at a small drum kit in a vivid indoor scene. The bird is centred in the foreground: it has a white, rounded body, a tall red crest, a red oval beak, and small dark eyes. Its wings spread out to either side, with yellow outer sections and orange inner markings. A large bass drum sits directly in front of it, with a white face, blue and yellow rims, and a magenta centre marked “Cyw”. Smaller blue drums and cymbals cluster around the bird; their curved outlines overlap to form a compact semicircle across the lower middle of the image.
The room is simplified into broad blocks of colour. A lime-green wall fills the upper half, meeting a bright yellow floor at a horizontal line behind the drum kit. At upper left is a window with turquoise panes and pink and blue crossbars, partly covered by orange curtains patterned with small pale musical notes. A thin blue curtain rail runs above it. At right, a tall red, guitar-shaped stand or display holds several small blue, yellow, and orange objects on stacked platforms; its precise function is unclear. The floor is otherwise open, apart from the kit’s curved yellow supports and small feet. The scene has no enclosing border, and the broad areas of green and yellow around the central arrangement keep the layout open and legible.
The palette is highly saturated, dominated by lime green, yellow, turquoise, red, orange, and magenta, with white providing contrast on the bird and bass drum. Shapes are outlined in dark blue or purple, and details are drawn with clean, smooth edges. The light is even and graphic, without realistic shadows, depth, or surface texture. The artwork is an uncomplicated, flat illustration, using rounded forms and repeated arcs to suggest the drums and their supports.
Large rounded turquoise lettering across the lower part of the yellow floor reads “Canu gyda Cyw”; smaller turquoise text, “a’i ffrindiau”, sits just below the title, slightly right of centre. The word “Cyw” appears in white near the upper-right corner. The bird’s drum also bears “Cyw” in white within its magenta circle. The lettering is bold and friendly in appearance, and the title spans most of the width beneath the instruments.
What the image evokes.
The cover has the buoyant, uncluttered feel of a child’s playroom: the window, patterned curtains and sunny two-colour room provide a domestic setting, while the bird and drum kit turn it into a small performance space. The oversized instruments make the bird seem like the star of its own colourful stage. Repeated circles in the drums, the bird’s face and the display at right give the scene a playful visual rhythm.
The intensity of the lime wall and yellow floor makes the whole image feel as if it is humming with energy. Turquoise and magenta cut across those warm, bright fields in crisp accents, giving the composition a toy-like clarity. The guitar-shaped structure at the right adds a curious counterpoint: it resembles a musical prop, yet its stacked, brightly coloured details also bring to mind a display shelf or a fanciful machine. The result is cheerful and inviting, with a touch of visual busyness held together by the strong central arrangement and simple shapes.
