A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

The square cover combines a castle image with a layered blue-and-green treatment. A large, pale blue view of a stone castle fills the upper portion: crenellated walls and several towers rise against a hazy sky, with the structure fading softly into the cool tint. The walls stretch nearly edge to edge, and the tallest round tower stands just right of centre. The castle image is low in contrast, almost ghosted, and meets a horizontal boundary around the middle of the cover.

Across that boundary, the large title “Anthem Geltaidd” runs from near the left edge to the right, in white serif lettering with a fine dark shadow or outline. It overlaps both the blue castle view and the green area below. Above it, near the top centre, a smaller line of narrow, condensed white capitals reads “CÔR MEIBION MAELGWYN”.

The lower half is predominantly green, with a darker, soft-edged castle silhouette or repeated impression visible in the background, especially towards the right. A small, sharp rectangular photograph sits left of centre, partly covering this green field. It shows a grey stone castle beside water, with boats in the foreground and a low strip of shoreline or harbour; the inset has no visible border. The small photograph is considerably more detailed and darker than the large, washed-out castle image behind it. Overall, the cover uses a photographic collage or composite appearance, with strong blue and green colour fields and a deliberately softened background image.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The cover sets a grand, distant view against a small, immediate one. The pale castle seems to dissolve into the sky, as though recalled through mist or seen on an old postcard, while the inset brings stone, water and boats into sharper focus. That contrast gives the image a quiet sense of distance and return: an imposing landmark is both monumental across the top and modestly encountered at the water’s edge below.

The blue and green division feels almost like a meeting of sky and land, though it is too sharply arranged to read as a natural landscape. The title bridges the two zones, lending the lettering a theatrical, ceremonial presence. The green castle shadow adds a faintly dreamlike echo, so the composition hovers between a straightforward scenic cover and a layered memory of place. Its restrained palette and softened imagery make it feel reflective rather than dramatic.

Associations are subjective readings, rather than documented influences or statements of the artist’s intention.
