This Is The Moment

Beaufort Male Voice Choir

Album artwork for Beaufort Male Voice Choir, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.

A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

A square album cover combines a black-and-white photograph with coloured lettering across the top. The photograph is a close, oblique view of a large clock face, cropped by every edge of the image. Its curved rim sweeps from the upper left, down the left side and across the lower half, catching a bright white highlight against the darker surroundings. The face fills most of the right and lower areas; it is softly out of focus, with dark numerals including a prominent 10 near the bottom centre and a 9 to its right. A long, dark hand angles from near the centre towards the upper right. The crop and shallow focus leave the exact time unclear.

The monochrome image has a blurred, shadowy background, especially at the left, where indistinct light and dark forms sit beyond the bright rim. The clock face is pale grey, while its edge and surrounding shadows create strong black-and-white contrast. A thin yellow-green horizontal rule runs across the cover near the top, separating the photograph from the title area. Above it, large teal lowercase lettering reads “this is the moment”; the tall, narrow letters have pronounced thick-and-thin strokes and extend almost from one side to the other. Below the rule, two compact lines of uppercase text are centred: “THE BEAUFORT MALE CHOIR” in red, followed by “CÔR MEBION BEAUFORT” in blue. The small bilingual credit is sharply aligned against the softer photographic image. There is no enclosing border.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The close crop turns an everyday clock into a landscape of arcs, shadows and blurred markings. Its bright rim has the sweep of a horizon or a crescent, while the hand cuts across the face like a narrow pointer through fog. The softened numerals make the clock feel less like a precise instrument than a memory of one: time is present everywhere, yet difficult to read.

The title’s slender teal letters lend the upper edge a poised, almost theatrical formality. Set against the blurred monochrome photograph, they seem crisp and self-assured, while the fine yellow-green line and the small red and blue credits add restrained flashes of colour. The result holds a quiet tension between immediacy and distance: the title declares a moment, but the image leaves it suspended, measured and elusive.

Associations are subjective readings, rather than documented influences or statements of the artist’s intention.

Lettering & observation notes
  • this is the moment — Across the upper part of the cover
  • THE BEAUFORT MALE CHOIR — Centred below the thin horizontal rule
  • CÔR MEBION BEAUFORT — Centred beneath the English choir name
  • The clock face is blurred and partly cropped, so its exact time and some smaller markings cannot be determined.
