Inside the image.
A square photographic cover is filled by a close portrait of a woman, framed from the upper chest upwards. Her head and shoulders occupy most of the left and central areas; she faces the viewer with a slight turn and a faint, closed-mouth smile. One hand is raised beneath her chin, the fingers loosely curled, while the other arm is not visible. Her shoulder-length brown hair has lighter copper tones and a fringe across her forehead. She wears a dark jacket with a broad, textured-looking collar over a warm-toned top. The crop cuts off her shoulders and arm at the lower and side edges, with no visible border.
Her face is the focal point, lit warmly from the front and standing out against a cool, pale blue-grey background. Behind her, horizontal slats or blinds run across the full width, softened and slightly blurred. The repeated lines remain most visible at the right, where the background opens into a relatively clear area around the lettering. The image has a shallow, portrait-photograph appearance: the woman is sharply defined, while the background is less distinct. Deep shadows gather in her hair and jacket, contrasting with the lighter skin, highlights in her hair, and the cool bands behind her.
In the upper right, pale lettering reads “lawr y lein” in large, slender lowercase characters with delicate serifs. Beneath it, smaller bold lettering reads “Gillian Elisa”, followed by “A’I FFRINDIAU” in a smaller uppercase line. The three lines are right-aligned as a compact block, with the title above the artist and accompanying line. The pale type contrasts gently with the striped background. The cover is photographic, with no evident drawn or painted elements.
What the image evokes.
The portrait has the intimacy of a face encountered across a small room: the direct gaze, relaxed mouth and hand beneath the chin suggest a pause rather than a posed display of exuberance. Her expression can read as warm and self-possessed, though the dark collar and shadowed hair add a quieter, more reflective note. That combination keeps the image from settling into a simple cheerful or solemn mood.
The blinds make a cool, orderly counterpoint to the softness and irregularity of hair, skin and hand. Their horizontal rhythm evokes an interior seen in late daylight, or the blurred lines of a window that keeps the outside world just beyond view. Against that calm geometry, the face feels close and present. The fine title lettering lends the image a restrained, almost literary air; it seems to float lightly over the background rather than compete with the portrait. The overall effect is personal and unhurried, like a still frame held on someone between words.
