Inside the image.
The square cover is dominated by a colour photograph of a rugged coast. Dark, steep-sided rock formations rise from green-blue water: a broad, irregular cliff fills much of the right half, while a separate tall rock stands in the left foreground, with a narrow gap of water between them. White surf is visible at the foot of the rocks and in the channel. Beyond them, the sea stretches to a level horizon beneath a pale blue sky. Tiny dark marks on the upper edge of the right-hand cliff may be people, but they are too small to identify clearly.
The image is framed by narrow blue bands at the top and bottom. Near the top, a dark rectangular panel outlined in pale cream contains the large white Welsh title “CÔR IEUENCTID SIR BENFRO”. Beneath it, small red lettering reads “gyda”, followed by a larger red line, “CHERDDORFA SIAMBR WESTWARD”; a smaller line below reads “Arweinydd • JOHN S. DAVIES”. The red lines sit directly over the sky and upper rock, with the title panel providing the strongest typographic contrast. A small red-and-blue geometric emblem appears over the lower-right part of the photograph. The bottom blue band carries a row of small white names, separated by dots: “HANDEL • HAYDN • CORELLI • HARRIES • STAINER • MATHIAS • EVANS • HODDINOTT”.
The photograph has a subdued, slightly soft appearance. Deep greens and near-black shadows in the rocks contrast with the cooler blue sea and sky; pale foam and the light lettering provide the brightest accents. The coast is uneven and weathered, with layered faces, ledges and jagged outlines. There is no visible frame around the cover as a whole beyond the coloured bands and title panel.
What the image evokes.
The view has the scale and drama of a place shaped by exposure: the cliffs seem to hold their ground while the water presses through the gap and breaks into foam below. The isolated rock at left gives the scene a sense of separation, almost like a dark threshold between the open sea and the heavier headland. The tiny marks on the distant cliff, whether figures or something else, make the landscape feel vast by comparison.
The blue bands and formal lettering lend the cover a composed, almost ceremonial quality, set against scenery that feels rugged and untamed. The red subtitle sits lightly across the sky and rock, while the boxed white title resembles a sign fixed above a landscape view. Together, these elements evoke an older style of printed music or community-arts cover without proving any particular period or design influence. The image can feel both windswept and calm: surf suggests movement and force, yet the distant horizon and broad expanse of water leave room for stillness.
