A CLOSER LOOK / 01

Inside the image.

A square cover is filled by a close view of old, weathered wood. Narrow vertical planks in ochre, olive green, brown and muted gold form the background, marked by dark grain, cracks, knots and uneven areas of colour. A large, pale circular wooden form, possibly a wheel or a curved section of timber, occupies much of the right half; its curved edge and faint radial divisions show through the lettering and bars. The image is tightly cropped, with no separate border or open margin.

Across the wood, several narrow translucent teal-green horizontal bands run from the left edge towards the right, at irregular intervals. Their edges are softened and their colour varies, allowing the grain beneath to remain visible. The main title sits across the middle: “GOREUON” in large yellow capitals at left, followed by “GWLAD I MI 4” in larger, pale grey-white capitals and numerals. The title is the strongest focal point; the yellow opening word contrasts with the cool, light lettering beside it.

Smaller names are arranged in staggered lines above and below the title, mostly in pale grey or white uppercase lettering with a narrow, slightly irregular appearance and generous spacing. Some sit directly over the green bands, while others lie against the wood. The upper names are concentrated towards the centre and right; below the title, names continue down the centre and right, with a longer line near the bottom extending from the left towards the centre. The overall treatment combines a textured wood image with overlaid typography and flat colour bars; there are no clearly visible people or other distinct objects.

ASSOCIATIONS & IMPRESSIONS / 02

What the image evokes.

The weathered planks give the cover an earthy, tactile presence, as if the lettering has been laid over an old door, fence or timbered wall. The broad curve behind the words unsettles that straightforward reading: it might suggest a wheel or a rounded wooden structure, but remains partly concealed, so the eye keeps shifting between grain and form.

The teal bands bring a cooler, almost modern graphic rhythm to the aged surface. They slice across the vertical grain like strips of paint or light, while the title interrupts their horizontal movement with its emphatic central block. The yellow word has the warmth of a small flare against the subdued greens and browns; the pale lettering feels quieter, though its size gives it weight. The scattered names make the image feel layered and communal, like labels added to a surface already marked by time. The result holds together rustic materiality and deliberate, contemporary arrangement without resolving into either one alone.

Associations are subjective readings, rather than documented influences or statements of the artist’s intention.
