Goreuon Cor Meibion Llanelli / Best Of The Llanelli Male Voice Choir
Llanelli Male Voice Choir
Album artwork for Llanelli Male Voice Choir, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square album cover combines a sunset landscape with a block of Welsh and English lettering across the upper part. The sky fills roughly the top three-quarters of the image, shifting from muted olive-brown at the top through gold and orange to a bright yellow glow low on the left. A narrow strip of dark land runs across the horizon, with low, uneven tree-covered silhouettes. Beneath it, a calm lake mirrors the sky and the bright sun, which sits close to the horizon on the left. The reflection forms a vertical streak of white-yellow light in the water, surrounded by orange and gold. A thin, dark shoreline or band of shadow crosses the lake near the middle, separating the brighter foreground reflection from the more distant water. The lower corners and edges are darker, while the sun and its reflection provide the strongest highlights.
The text is centred in the upper portion, arranged in several compact lines. At the top, “GOREUON” appears in tall, narrow, pale lettering, followed by the much brighter yellow words “CÔR MEIBION”. Directly below, “LLANELLI” is the largest line, in bold white capitals with a dark shadow or outline. Smaller lines beneath read “20 o ganeuon odli ar”, then “Pan Ddawr Nos, Aros Gyda Mi” and “Gawryw y Geni” in gold-toned Welsh lettering. The lowest line, “LLANELLI MALE CHOIR’S 20 BEST WELSH TRACKS”, is set in dark, condensed capitals. The lettering spans most of the cover’s width and stands clearly against the open sky, with no visible border. The landscape is photographic in appearance, with smooth areas of colour and soft atmospheric transitions; the text is cleanly overlaid.
What the image evokes.
The cover has the familiar, expansive calm of a sunset reflected in still water, but its colour is unusually concentrated: the orange sky and lake seem to glow from within, while the tree line cuts a firm, almost black silhouette across the warmth. That contrast gives the scene both tranquillity and drama. The sun is small in relation to the sky, yet its reflection draws the eye down through the image like a bright seam.
The stacked lettering lends the upper sky the quality of a title card. Its mix of pale, yellow and white words feels ceremonial and emphatic, while the narrow dark subtitle anchors the brighter display lettering. There is a gentle tension between the grand scale suggested by the typography and the quiet, unpopulated landscape below. The image might evoke a postcard view, a lakeside evening, or the last light of a day settling into silence; the water's near symmetry makes the scene feel composed and still, even as the vivid glow keeps it from seeming subdued.
