A colourful, staged group photograph fills the square image. Five people in theatrical costumes gather around a small pink table: a seated figure in bright yellow at the front left; a taller figure in a bulky yellow costume behind them; a person in yellow and black near the centre; a seated figure in red at the front centre-right; and a standing figure in green at the right, with a child-sized figure in purple seated on their lap. They face the camera, several smiling. Their faces are made up or masked in contrasting colours, including pale faces, a dark-haired face, and a blue-painted face beneath a shaggy white hood.

The group is tightly packed and occupies nearly the whole frame. The two seated figures in front form the lower edge of the group, while the taller costumes rise behind them. The pink table crosses the lower middle, with a small upright pale card or leaflet near its left side. A broad, rounded yellow costume curves up behind the figure at left and encloses the central-left figures; its large smooth shape stands out against the more textured clothing around it. The room behind them has a pink and yellow backdrop with partial lettering, circular decorations and a few thin, upright decorative elements. A strip of dark patterned floor is visible at the bottom right. The photograph is cropped close, with no separate border.

Yellow dominates the costumes and backdrop, set against the red clothing, the purple garment, the green coat and the pink table. The lighting is bright and even on the faces and costumes, with soft shadows; the background is more subdued. The image has the appearance of a colour photograph, with soft detail in places and no obvious painted or drawn treatment.

Large lettering overlays the upper part of the photograph. Small white text at the top reads “caneuon”; beneath it, “CAFFI” appears in blue capitals, followed by the much larger words “SALI MALI” in rounded yellow capitals with a dark outline or shadow. The lettering spans most of the width and partly overlaps the figures and backdrop. A narrow line of small yellowish text runs along the bottom edge; it is too indistinct to read confidently.
