Elinor Bennett/meinir Heulyn
Album artwork for Elinor Bennett/meinir Heulyn, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
A square cover with a narrow green ornamental frame around a pale, almost white central field. The frame is built from several fine parallel green lines and repeating leaf-like and looped motifs; small curls and pointed shapes make the inner edge especially elaborate. The central field is inset with a thin green outline, leaving a slim pale gap before the outer decoration.
At the centre is a large circular green medallion, its edge densely patterned with small repeating marks. Within it, two pale stylised figures sit facing inwards on either side of a tall upright harp. Each figure appears to hold or play a smaller harp angled towards the centre. The central instrument rises above them, with a narrow decorated pillar and a fan of closely spaced strings descending towards its curved base. The figures, instruments and surrounding circle are rendered in layered shades of green, with fine linework and pale highlights that stand out against the darker ground. The medallion occupies most of the middle of the cover, while clear bands of pale space above and below it separate the illustration from the lettering.
Green decorative lettering is arranged in three groups. Across the top, the largest line reads “ALAWON POBLOGAIDD”; directly beneath it is a smaller line, “Ar ddwy delyn”. Below the circular illustration, two names appear on one line: “Elinor Bennett” at left and “Meinir Heulyn” at right. The lettering is flowing and markedly slanted, with curling strokes and ornate capitals; the green ink-like forms echo the intricate border and illustration. The design is flat and symmetrical overall, with no photographic depth or cast shadows. Its palette is limited to several greens and pale cream or white, and the fine decorative lines give the surface a printed, finely engraved appearance.
What the image evokes.
The cover has the air of a small ceremonial object: the nested border encloses the image like a keepsake frame, and the central circle reads almost as a seal or medallion. Its repeated green motifs make the page feel carefully ordered, while the two inward-facing figures establish a quiet balance around the harp. The eye moves from the broad, flourish-heavy title down to the finely worked circle and then to the two names, following a gentle vertical cadence.
The harp and the looping ornament suggest a meeting of music and decorative craft. The symmetrical figures could bring to mind an emblem on an old bookplate or a formal illustration in a song collection, though the cover itself does not specify such a tradition. The restricted green palette keeps the design calm and cohesive; it can feel fresh and leafy, yet the elaborate lettering and dense medallion also lend it a slightly antique, ceremonial quality. The result sits between intimacy and formality: two players seem absorbed in a shared activity, while the surrounding frame presents that scene with the composure of a heraldic device.
