Brythoniaid Male Choir
Album artwork for Brythoniaid Male Choir, provided through the SAIN Records collection on Wikimedia Commons.
Inside the image.
The square cover combines a colour photograph of a mountain stream with a narrow, graphic title panel on the right. The photograph fills roughly the left two-thirds and extends to the top and bottom edges. A rocky stream begins in the middle distance near the centre, then runs down towards the viewer, widening across the lower half. White water breaks around pale stones and darker boulders. Dense green trees and shrubs line both banks, with a steep, craggy ridge rising behind them beneath a clear deep-blue sky. The trees partly obscure the rock face, and the stream’s winding course gives the scene a strong sense of depth. A few slender trunks stand out against the sky at the upper edges.
A tall pale-cream strip occupies the right side, bounded on its right by a solid dark-green vertical band. Near the top of the cream panel, a very large green “20” dominates; beneath it are two smaller lines of black serif lettering. The cream panel is clean and flat beside the detailed, natural photographic scene. Across the lower part of the photograph, a blue rectangular title cartouche with a thin light border sits over the stream. It contains large white serif lettering, with two much smaller lines above and below. The cartouche partly covers the water and reaches close to the boundary with the cream panel. The design contrasts the irregular textures and varied greens of the landscape with straight-edged colour blocks and carefully arranged type. The light appears bright and direct, leaving the water highlights and open sky conspicuously bright against the shaded foliage.
What the image evokes.
The cover sets the rush of a real-looking landscape against the calm, almost architectural order of its title panels. The stream seems to move out of the picture towards the viewer, while the upright cream and green bands hold the right edge still. This gives the composition a pleasing push and pull between movement and repose.
The mountain setting may suggest an excursion into a cool, secluded valley: the blue sky is spacious, but the wooded slopes close in around the water. There is a sense of freshness and distance, softened by the familiar, almost postcard-like framing of the scene. The large “20” and the blue nameplate lend the image a distinctly formal, commemorative air, as though a landscape photograph has been fitted into a neat printed label. The result feels both scenic and orderly, balancing the stream’s lively detail with an assured, restrained graphic design.

Lettering & observation notes
- 20 — Near the top of the cream panel on the right.
- O’R GOREUON — Below “20” in the cream panel; the lettering is small.
- OF THE BEST — Below “O’R GOREUON” in the cream panel.
- CÔR MEIBION — In small lettering near the top of the blue cartouche across the lower photograph.
- Y Brythoniaid — Large white lettering in the centre of the blue cartouche.
- MALE CHOIR — In small lettering at the bottom of the blue cartouche.
- The small line beneath “20” is difficult to read; it appears to say “O’R GOREUON”, but the final letters are not fully clear.
