Within the scene, three elaborately dressed figures gather around stringed instruments in a dim interior. At left, a woman in a pale yellow dress sits in profile, leaning towards a small string instrument held across her lap. Near the centre, a standing figure in a golden dress holds a tall harp; its curved, reddish-brown neck rises prominently above her. At right, a seated figure in a pale, brimmed hat and richly patterned clothing faces the others, with another large stringed instrument partly visible behind. The figures and instruments occupy the lower half and centre of the painting, while shadowed architectural forms and indistinct furnishings recede into the background. A small reddish object or cloth lies near the lower right, beside what appears to be a low wooden instrument or case. The painted image is taller than it is wide and sits slightly inset from the cover edges. Its subdued palette of umber, ochre, olive, gold and black contrasts with the surrounding wine-red field. The central woman and harp catch the strongest light, while the corners and background remain very dark. A narrow, dark frame edges the painted rectangle. The image has the softened, layered appearance of a reproduction of a painting, with fine detail difficult to distinguish at this size. Tall, widely spaced white serif capitals run across the top, partly over the burgundy margin and the upper edge of the painting: “DARLUN O'R DELYN” on the first line and “ELINOR BENNETT” below. At lower left, a pale mauve rectangular panel overlaps the painting and border; it contains several short lines of small black Welsh text, followed by a line of names. At lower right, three short lines of dark lettering sit on the burgundy field; the first, “DDD”, is printed over a small pale rectangle, with “SCD” and “9053” beneath. ASSOCIATIONS AND AESTHETIC IMPRESSIONS The broad burgundy surround gives the cover the feeling of a theatre curtain drawn back around a scene. Inside, the arrangement of players and instruments suggests an intimate recital, but the darkness keeps it from feeling like a straightforward performance photograph. The harp’s tall, curling outline acts almost like a column at the centre, dividing the group while also drawing the eye between the standing figure and the seated musicians. The warm, concentrated light on the dresses and instruments lends the scene a candlelit, old-master quality. Against it, the shadowed room seems to absorb detail, leaving the people suspended in a pocket of amber glow. There is a gentle formality in their clothing and poised gestures, yet the close grouping and differing directions of their faces make the moment feel conversational rather than ceremonial. The design balances the quiet intricacy of the painted scene with the emphatic, widely spaced title lettering above it. READABLE LETTERING DARLUN O'R DELYN — Across the top, in large white capitals ELINOR BENNETT — Below the title, across the top CERDDORIAETH O OES AUR Y DELYN RHWNG 1730 AC 1830 GAN PARRI, HANDEL, EBERL, MOZART, DUSSEK, JONES, ROSETTI, SPÖHR A GLINKA — In the pale panel at lower left DDD — On a small pale rectangle at lower right SCD 9053 — Below “DDD” at lower right OBSERVATION NOTES - The small Welsh lettering in the lower-left panel is difficult to resolve; the transcription may be uncertain in places. - Fine details in the dark painting, including the exact forms of the instruments and background furnishings, are indistinct at this image size.
